.To view the new messages, open the Inbox (a number appears next to the Inbox to indicate the numberof unread messages it contains).New messages you haven t read yet are listed in boldface in themessage list and are preceded by a closed envelope icon, as in the example shown in Figure 8-24.page 141Windows XP BibleMessages containing attached files are preceded by a paperclip icon and those with a high or lowpriority are preceded by an exclamation point (!) or a down arrow, respectively.Note Don t panic if the boldface attribute suddenly disappears from the message line.This means you viewed the message for about five seconds (an interval you canadjust, as explained later in Customizing the default mail options ).To read a specific message, click it.The preview pane at the bottom shows the contents of the e-mailmessage.If you prefer to open the message in a separate window, double-click it.Tip If you already have messages stored in one of the more popular e-mail programs,you can import them into Outlook Express.Importing old messages can beespecially handy when you re switching from some other e-mail program to OutlookExpress.See the section Importing and Exporting Messages for details.When you finish reading the message, you can do any of the following:Reply: To send a reply to the author of the e-mail, click the Reply toolbar button or pressCtrl+R.Type your reply and click the Send toolbar button.Reply All: To reply to everyone who received the message (including those who receivedcarbon copies), click the Reply All toolbar button or press Ctrl+Shift+R.Type your reply andclick the Send button.Caution Before you choose Reply All, make sure you know who all the recipients willbe.If you want to send a private message to just the sender, make sure youclick the Reply button, and not Reply All.Forward: To forward the message to someone else, click the Forward (or Forward Message)toolbar button, or press Ctrl+F.Type the new recipient s name, type a message describing theforwarded information (optional), and then click the Send button.Forward As Attachment: To forward the message to someone else as an attachment to amessage you ve written, choose Message ’! Forward As Attachment from the menu bar.Typethe new recipient s name, type a message describing the forwarded information (optional), andthen click the Send toolbar button.Delete: To delete the message, click the Delete button or press Ctrl+D.Outlook Express movesthe message to the Deleted Items folder.Print: To print the message, choose File ’! Print from the menu bar, or press Ctrl+P, or clickthe Print toolbar button if it s available.Mark As Unread: To mark the message line with boldface as a reminder to reread it later,choose Edit ’! Mark As Unread from the menu bar.Mark As Read: To remove the boldface and mark a message as read, choose Edit ’! Mark AsRead, or press Ctrl+Q.Mark All Read: To mark all the messages as read, choose Edit ’!
